Psychic Flashcards

I recently watched Psychic Academy. It stars medium Tony Stockwell, and in this 6-episode long show, he had a number of contestants who were vying to be his apprentice.

One of the challenges that applicants had to endure in order to be selected as one of the top 6 participants was to see if they could use their psychic or telepathic abilities to read the back of a card.

Each card was blank on one side and on the other side there was a symbol. The symbols were simple shapes, such as squares and stars.

Here is how it worked: The applicant during auditions was shown the blank side of a card and asked, “Can you tell me what is on the back of the card I am holding?” If the person spoke aloud the correct symbol they were ranked higher and were more likely to win a spot as one of the final 6 contestants.

I love this exercise! I used to play this game with my friends all the time as a kid.

If you want, we can play it right now. Watch the video above and I’ll show you several symbols, then I’ll remove them from the screen, and you can use your psychic powers to determine which symbol I’m going to reveal at the end of the video.

If after you’ve watch the video you’ve chosen the right symbol – Great job!

If you didn’t choose the correct symbol, don’t stress over it. This is a simple exercise that you can actually do at home on your own to strengthen your psychic (if you play solo) and telepathic (if you play with friends) abilities.

Instructions For Making Your Own Psychic Flashcards

Take several blank note cards and put symbols on one side while leaving the opposite side blank.

Examples of simple symbols to use:

  • Heart
  • Circle
  • Square
  • Triangle
  • Diamond

How To Play

Shuffle the cards face down.

Pull one of the cards out.

Ask yourself (or your opponents), “What symbol is on the back of this card?”

Scoring & Winning

Give yourself a point and a high-five every time you say the correct symbol!

If you’re playing with friends, the person with the most points at the end is the winner and has rightfully earned the title of Psychic Queen or Psychic King.

Be sure to play an odd number of cards to ensure there is only one winner. In the event of a run-off, deal more cards until there is only one Psychic Queen or King left standing.

How To Play: Alternate Version / Advanced

If you are playing with friends, you can play this game in teams and work on your telepathy.

Shuffle the cards face down.

Pull one of the cards out.

Look at the symbol and hold the image of the symbol in your mind.

For example, see the triangle in your mind’s eye (if you can picture what you had for lunch then you can use the same visualization process to see the symbol on the back of the card). Open yourself up and allow your teammate to see the symbol of the triangle you are holding in your mind.

Ask your teammate, “What symbol am I picturing in my mind?”

Personal Development: Playful Psychic Practice

Keep a tally of how many symbols you predict correctly. Be sure to also keep track of how many cards you draw in total.

The more you play (err, practice?) the better you’ll get!
